MOMENTUM MONDAY

Momentum Mondays: Adapting

Hey!

Three cheers to hitting the ground running. I just found out that I may need to move this weekend (long story) so this week will be another one of taking life events as they come.

This past weekend, I took in a concert on Friday night. The Broods in case you are a music lover.

We had a farewell party for Angela because she leaves this Friday for Vancouver! Before that, we headed to the 2XU show room to snag some beautiful wetsuits for the season. I will be reviewing it in the future.

Last week was another incredibly stressful week so I adapted my training accordingly. When life stress hits and I don’t have enough time to get in the volume of training, I make every workout as quality as possible.

I feel as if I struck a solid balance between managing stress and knocking out some solid work, especially as it was the second last hard training week before Boston!

MONDAY : 13 KM interval training

TUESDAY: REST

WEDNESDAY: 9 KM EASY RUN

THURSDAY: 20 KM tempo run

FRIDAY: REST

SATURDAY: REST

SUNDAY: 28 KM long run

For a girl who normally takes easy days instead of rest days, this week was a little bizarre for me but my training felt strong and as I have mentioned before, sometimes it is important to adjust your training when you are dealing with a lot of stress.

How about you? Do you make alterations to your training during stressful times or do you power through?

Have you ever needed to move in a week? Make me feel better and tell me about it!

I usually go by how I feel. The daily stresses can be a negative effect on training, so if I think I need the rest, I’ll take it. I learned a long time ago that rest is very important, more important than a missed or shortened workout.

I am getting married this September and training for my first marathon in November, but I’ve found that having a training schedule keeps me sane!! I have to switch rest and run days every once in a while, but I love having a plan that I can kinda stick to. And it helps with the stress! Planning has been a breeze so far.

I generally power through and make sure I do my workouts when I can. It helps curve the stress and refresh myself. However, there are times I listen to my body and see how I feel (if stress has been there constantly).

I had to move out in two days because I got kicked out by my ex. It was a really rough situation because I had a cat too. Many people were willing to take me in, but not my cat. I couldn’t leave my little buddy behind, and I was lucky enough to have met someone who was looking for someone to occupy his basement unit!

Personally I found that the bigger you make the stress, it just consumes you. Pass it off like it’s not a huge deal and it won’t bother you. Good luck with the move!

I run when I’m stressed. A lot. And I absolutely adore The Broods. I saw them open for Sam Smith last year. I need to check to see if they’re coming out this way!

New reader! Moving is so stressful! And it has to be more stressful with no notice….ugh. I’ve gone through periods of a lot of stress when my running really suffered. It helped me to remember during those times that it was temporary…even though it didn’t really feel that way at the time. It’s important to take care of yourself and sometimes you have to adjust your training.

Welcome Beth! Thanks for your insight. Stress affects running so easily and I love the idea of remembering that it is temporary.

Taking a rest I think is important. Gives your body a bit of a break but I know personally it’s a finicky balance. Running helps me de-stress, to sleep better, and generally be less cranky. However, some weeks it just doesn’t happen. I figure as long as I don’t get in a habit of not making my schedule, then I’m taking life as it comes.
Good luck with this week’s schedule. It looks like you’re still crushing it with your runs!

MORE moving!??! You must be exhausted. I think the rest days make total sense, and even though I use running to de-stress, sometimes the thought that I need to get x miles done on a certain day stresses me out even more. It sounds like you have the right balance here – still great mileage. Way to gooo! xo
