Goals for April 2016
Um, March?
That is kind of how I am feeling about this past month. I have been running 100 miles an hour and I can hardly believe that we are in April already but I am so excited. It means warmer weather and summer adventures are just on the horizon.
As I always do, it’s time to take a look at how I did with those things I said I would do in March and set some new goals for April.
1. Get my taxes done. A
I have everything collected and submitted to my girl – I just need her to submit everything and we are DONE.
2. Add a swim into my training at least once a week. A++
Uhhh, make that TWICE a week. And they have been crazy workouts. I have a big announcement to make in my performance report on Monday and this is tied to that.
3. Run a 5 KM PB. A++
I sure am glad I jumped into the Frosty 5 KM this month as well because the Laurier Loop was NOT the course for PB’s. Regardless, I took almost 20 s off my 5 KM time from December with a new PB of 18:34 and you can read both race recaps here and here.
4. Get my team in place at work. A++
We just had our new coordinator start this week and we are CRUSHING my to-do and project lists. It is the best to have an absolute dream team at work.
5. Century Ride A++
I joined Mark, Peter and Clare on a trip to the Muncie, Indiana IRONMAN 70.3 course for Easter weekend and we did the fastest 100 KM ride I have done this year, with an average page of almost 30 KM/hr. Amazing how fast you can go when there aren’t huge hills to contend with. I do know that if I am going to tackle the Muskoka 70.3, that I will need to up my game.
I am proud of March. I accomplished everything I set out to do and it makes me excited about what I can do in April. Here is what I am tackling:
-
Hone in on triathlon nutrition
I am confident with my knowledge on how to fuel myself around a regular run workout schedule, but now that I am dealing with double day workouts and introducing brand new sports, I am meeting with my sports nutritionist to make sure I am still getting everything I need and looking at ways I can continue to improve. We are talking about doing special sweat testing where I can learn exactly what my hydration needs are and get super nutrition nerdy about it. Sign me up. I absolutely love working with her. She gives me a plan and I just eat what she tells me and I feel strong, healthy and ready to race!
2. Test out the Muskoka IRONMAN 70.3 course
Ok. It’s time for me to acknowledge exactly what the heck I am getting myself into. I am hoping to get out to Muskoka for a quick test run of the course to see what my weaknesses are and adjust my preparations and training accordingly.
3. Tackle a huge work event
At my job, there is an all consuming event that happens every spring and fall and it will keep me fairly anti-social until the end of the month. With extra team members and a fantastic momentum going, I have no doubt it will be awesome, but I am taking some extra time to focus on self care which includes eating well, getting as much sleep as possible which means limiting social events during the week. BYYEEEE.
4. Get my mountain bike trail ready.
I have some FUN adventure races planned that include super fast, technical bike portions that require me to improve my cycling skills. The trail riding will also be an asset to my hill strength on the road bike for the IRONMAN 70.3 so it all works together well. Add the fact that my team mate finally moved closer to me so we can connect for regular training days on the bike and paddle and I am out of excuses. Adventure Racing is VERY hard on your bike so every season is quite pricey to get my little trail steed ready to ride, but it is worth it for the amount of epic that is going to go down this year.
5. Be quiet.
This is going to absolutely shock anyone who knows me personally because what I lack in knowledge, I make up for in volume. I am making a goal of carving out some time every day where I just stop the noise and just be still. I guarantee this is going to be the hardest one on the list which is exactly why I need to do it.
What are your goals for the month?
Best race in March?

Girl, you CRUSHED IT in March – amazing job!!! It sounds like you’re getting super speedy on the run, and your bike strength is building as well which is awesome. I’m excited to hear about your announcement, and I’ve got a pretty big one coming up in a couple of weeks too. You’re gonna do amazing in Muskoka!
