Why I am LIVING for the Smith Optics Ruckus
I’ve spent almost my entire sporting career searching for the right sunglasses.
The entryway to my apartment has a rack with no less than 15 pairs of all colours, shapes and sizes to match to different sports, colours of lycra and time of day. I had given up on the idea of having that Goldilocks pair of sunglasses that literally did everything I needed it to and still looked good.
What would that perfect pair look like?
- Make me look super slick and super speedy
- Have a colour that matches most of my bikes and riding kits
- Have more than one set of lenses to adjust for light levels, rain, and polarized for eye protection
- Have solid visibility so I can have great peripheral views while I am pack riding and top-of-lens (for lack of a better word) visibility for when I am in aero and looking up to the road in front.
- Does not break easily. There is a giant sunglasses graveyard where many of my sunglasses go to die. (There was one morning on a stage race where I broke 2 pairs within an hour.)
- Feel comfortable on my face.
Enter the Smith Optics Ruckus from Altitude Sports.
It is not an overstatement to say I have barely taken them off. They work for all running and cycling and every time in between because I find I often forget to take them off my face.
They fit juuuuuust right with some great no-slip technology and work perfectly with my road and TT bike helmets. It is pretty difficult to find a great androgynous pair of sunglasses that look great on all genders but I can vouch for this one because it is the first pair that my boyfriend has asked me to borrow for a race. (He qualified for the half iron world championships while wearing them so I am going to say they are a lucky pair as well!)
I haven’t had them fog up on me despite cycling in rainy conditions and seriously steamy summer nights. The night I rode in the rain, I popped out the main lenses and swapped it out with the contrast rose lenses which allowed me to protect my eyes from rain and debris but see perfectly in low light.
On Canada Day, I released a contest to give away a pair of sunglasses to one of you.
Thank you to everyone who entered the contest. The winner is Nicholas Van velzen! I will be in touch with you for your address and I will send the pair on it’s way!
For those of you who are interested, Altitude Sports currently has the model on sale for 20% off. Snap it up, you will love this pair of sunnies!
