Media Madness

christmas-lightsHappy Hump Day, one and all!

This morning as I was headed to the office from the gym, pounding my weekly Starbucks latte, when one of my current favourite songs came on the radio.

I furtively looked around the highway, and as soon as all vehicles were a safe distance away, I broke out in what I like to call my “super duper car dance moves.”

Note: Don’t try this at home…

Sadly, I am much better at them than anything else. My best moves stop at the “Mom Dance” if I am anywhere but the car…

So there is that.

I am seriously considering getting my car windows tinted to save the poor commuters who are innocently caught in my car dance vortex.

What is the song that is currently causing me to abandon social graces and jump into the world of the insane and careless?

I just love it so much. The rhythm, the lyrics and the utter juxtaposition of a rapper bragging about how little money he has to spend.

I thought today would be a good day to launch into the media that I am whole heartedly LOVING right now.

My soon to be favourite album

I have an instant crush on any man that can sing. Especially tenors. Yes.

This movie:

But you already knew that

I am most looking forward to seeing this upcoming movie:

IDENTITY THIEF

For those of you who have been deeply concerned for my entertainment well being on the television front, no fear, I have found a suitable replacement for Gossip Girl with the following shows (but note it did take two to fill the void):

MODERN FAMILY

NEW GIRL

I received a few questions on what I did with my hair a couple of posts ago? Long and blonde. Because honestly, it can’t do much else.

What are your favourite shows/songs/albums right now?

It’s a Revolution!!!

Ok. So I love the French Revolution.

Let’s just get this out of the way…

christmas-lights

As a French student in university, I studied the intricacies of the revolts, the kings and their short fallings and the issues in the system. In French. It was a nerd paradise.

What got me started on this obsession?

It really is hard to say, but I think it was Charles Dicken’s fault. You all know that when I start a book that I don’t necessarily like, I feel a compulsion to finish it and I think it began with A Tale of Two Cities in first year university. It really was slow until the last couple of chapters when I was reduced to a weeping maniac with a residual obsession with the guillotine and French freedom!

I also grew up with parents who were wildly obsessed with Les Miserables.

Fate. Obviously.

So when I found out that this was happening:

I was beyond thrilled.

A couple of coworkers and I are working through all of the Golden Globe nominations and last night was both cheap movie night and the night we chose to watch Les Miserables. Perfection.

I smuggled in my chocolate covered almonds (What? They were organic!) and settled in for literally the best movie since The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It was every bit as epic as I had hoped.

Firstly, there was this perfect creature.

Anne Hathaway can do no wrong in my books.

I bought the recent Vogue where she was the cover model and they interviewed her on her role in the movie.

For her role in Les Mis, she had to look simultaneously emaciated and radiant. Before the start of shooting, she went on a strict cleanse and lost ten pounds, which in the early scenes of the film gives her a gossamer quality. She then took two weeks off and lost another fifteen pounds by following a near-starvation diet, consisting of two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day. “I had to be obsessive about it—the idea was to look near death,” she recalls. “Looking back on the whole experience—and I don’t judge it in any way—it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway.”

Ridiculous. More dedication than 10 average people, but she was the most convincing Fantine ever. She sang I Dreamed a Dream in a way that was simultaneously raw and beautiful.

Also, Amanda Seyfried is ridiculously beautiful and she rocked her role as Cossette!

Hugh Jackman deserved his award for acting, certainly. But honestly, I wasn’t sold on his singing. I found myself willing him to stop. So…not great.

If my opinion matters at all, go see the movie!

If you have seen the movie, what do you think?

If it’s up to me, it all comes down to you or What I’m Loving

Good morning, everyone!

I hope your week is going smoothly as we head straight into the weekend. This week has been a blur of car shopping (more later) and the first full week back to work since the holidays.

Over the holidays, I said that I am wanting to start some regular features on the blog. Let me introduce my new Wednesday feature:

The way it works? I share something, someone or well..anything that I am loving in particular that week?

Why? Because it is one of my favourite things on other blogs, whether it is something brand new that I tried or something tried and true, it will be here. I am hoping to use it to shine a light on other bloggers as well, and will work out a system that I will instigate as we go on.

But let’s start with the obvious, shall we?

If you can see past the cheesiness of it all, we celebrated our 2 year anniversary this past holiday season and I felt as if he deserved a bit of recognition.

Recently, some of my friends and I were hashing out “The Moment” where you realize you have it bad for that special someone in your life. Let me tell you about that moment with Jesse.

It was over 2 years ago. He was working in Rentals at my father’s store.

I needed to go over to Rentals for one reason or another and I walked in on him digging into one of those huge, trough-sized pieces of Tupperware which was overflowing with dark, leafy greens covered in home made salad dressing.

I tried to be cool.

“Nice salad.”

He looked at me, grinning from ear to ear. “I love vegetables!”

And that, gentlemen, is how it is done.

Anyways. It has been an amazing two years. We have traveled Europe together.

Adopted a cantankerous, angry, bitter Yorkie that we love.

He has been there for all my biggest moments:

True love is sitting through a 2 hour convocation.

True love is sitting through a 2 hour convocation.

and he has taught me a new sport:

Thrilled to be teaching me how to cross country ski

Thrilled to be teaching me how to cross country ski

He can always make me laugh.

This boy makes me laugh - I believe he had just whispered "Who let the fox in here?"

There are a thousand other moments, and things he has done, said and given that I could mention here. I was recently talking to a friends and commemorating the two years of us and I remarked at how much I have grown as a person in the two years I have been with Jesse. She asked if I thought that would happened without Jesse in the picture. I decided it didn’t matter – the fact that I can grow and be confident in my own strengths, interests and goals show that he is an incredible person to have at my side.

So grateful for the the past two years.

Some other things I am loving:

1. Uh – that you can WIN Kathyrn Bertine’s latest book on my article from Alternatives. Enter and win!!!

2. This blog. Belonging to our editor, it is his journey across India in a rickshaw to raise money for charity. Check it out – so, so inspiring and incredible.

3. My new car. That’s right. I bought a brand spanking new car and it is SO much better than you can imagine! I pick it up on Saturday and I will reveal what it is on Monday. Stay tuned.

What else I love? All of you! Have a marvellous week!
