Blogger Brunch and Magazine Review
This weekend, I had the pleasure to meet up with some Healthy Living Bloggers from the KW area for brunch at Cora’s.
It was my first blogger meet-up and I was a little nervous. I have been reading these ladies’ blogs for a while and I felt like I knew them, but I was unsure how it would be face to face.
I didn’t need to worry at all. They were every bit as lovely in person as they appear.
The food was fantastic….
…and so was the conversation.
Nancy,ย Callie,ย Heena, andย Angela are all beautiful, talented ladies and we all had a lot in common. We talked for over two hours and Heena gave us all a parting gift:
It wasย a tiramisu-like creation with 20 layers of crepes and creme filling that she had made. I ate it for dinner and normally I am a chocolate-for-dessert-and-chocolate-alone kind of girl. But this…it was out of this world fantastic.
It was a lot of fun to meet up with other bloggers and I am excited to do it again.

This evening, I received the second issue of Trail Runner in the mail. I received a free years supply from them this summer and I figured it was high time I did a review. I also subscribe (and pay) for Runner’s World so I feel like I have a good comparison. I took a picture this month’s issue of both magazines for comparison.
The first thing I noticed was that Trail Runner is about 1/2 as thick as Runner’s World and it is still more expensive. There are almost an equal number of advertisements so there is less content in Trail Runner. There was more play by play of ultra marathons then advice on proper form and training. There is about a 50/50 ratio of advertisements and content which is a set back for the high selling cost.
It is useful for the fact that it supplies specific training, gear and race advice for trail runners, but I was a little wary of how much they hate on road racers.
Trail Runner is a great magazine if trail running and ultra marathoning is all you do. I read mine every month and learn something useful to take with me on my runs every time. However, cost and content wise, when I am buying a magazine, I will stick to my Runner’s World.
What is your favourite magazine?
Mine is Runner’s World and Vogue.
Run Strong, lovies and have a stellar week!!

It was so lovely to meet you too! I love the photo of all of us outside the restaurant – that guy did a good job with Callie’s camera!!
My favourite magazines..hmm… I like Oxygen for training inspiration, but there are a lot of ads for supplements that I normally just flip through. I think Women’s Health is my reigning favourite because it provides a good balance of info – fashion, fitness, nutrition, health, etc.
Have a great day!

I honestly have never read Oxygen, but I love Women’s Health! It is probably third on my list and my favourite of all women’s fitness magazines.
Melissa @ For the Love of Health says
Great blog!
I love both of those magazines- they are always filled with useful running information!

Hey there! I just discovered your blog and knew the second I read this entry that you must be an Ontario girl! I live in Victoria now, but I grew up in Ottawa and am UWO alumni!
Cora’s is so good! We don’t have them here and it drives me nuts! It looks like you had a wonderful time with the bloggers though!
Jessica says
Pleasure to “meet” you, Sarah-Mae! So cool you went to UWO and congrats on being DONE!
I look forward to following your blog. ๐

Glad you liked the crepe cake. It was so amazing to meet all of you. I was wondering how it would go, but the conversation was so easy. We must do it again soon.
P.S. You inspire me with your running. My running shoes are currently gathering dust ๐

It was a pleasure, Heena! I agree, a repeat is in order.
If you ever want to go for a run in Waterloo, I would love to go with you. ๐
Heena @Tiffin Tales says
You’ll have me huffing and puffing somewhere behind you ๐
What do you do when it gets cold in winter?
Jessica says
I try and run outside when I can. I have a pair of track spikes I wear so I don’t fall on ice.
If the weather is bad, I use the treadmill or cross train with skating, snowboaring or ellipticalling.
