Nuun Energy – Poppin’ Tabs
I’ll never forget the first time I topped a Nuun tab.
It was a hot day in July and I had been on a particularly long road ride. My friend pulled out this small tube and dropped a pink circle into my water that started hissing and spitting and finally settled into the most delicious sports drink I had ever tasted. I had been Tri-Berried.
I knew I wanted to work with this company from the first moment I tried them and I was delighted to be invited to be a part of their ambassador program in the fall. Since my first taste in 2013, I have been using the tablets regularly as a part of my workouts, races and daily hydration. It doesn’t hurt that one of my running heroes does as well…
Kara Goucher – making Nuun look even better.
I learned the importance of hydration when I did the 100 Miles of Wild trek back in 2013 with Adventure Science.
It had been a long day in the Badlands that was particularly cold and windy and as a result, I just wanted to keep moving and didn’t drink my water. That evening, I became violently ill and the paramedic on the trek informed me that I was suffering from dehydration. I learned an important lesson that night and I take it very seriously in training. I own countless water bottles, one hydration belt and two hydration packs and I will throw a Nuun tab or two into them before my long training sessions to increase my hydration.
Dehydration happens for lots of reasons. You’re often dehydrated in the morning when you wake up simply from sleeping for hours (hopefully lots of them!) without fluids. The processes in your body are working hard while you sleep, and even just breathing results in water loss from your body. But the most common causes of dehydration are simply not drinking enough regularly and not drinking enough during or after activity to replace what’s been lost. Most of the time people don’t recognize the signs of dehydration and only drink when they feel thirsty. By the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated and are probably being affected in more ways than you realize.
What the nuun tab does is add necessary electrolytes and minerals to your body to help keep you hydrated and well, makes it taste better so you drink more. It is a fabulous replacement to Gatorade because it is an all-natural supplement with no added sugars.
Up until recently, Nuun had 3 lines of hydration:
- NUUN ACTIVE HYDRATION is formulated specifically for higher intensity activities and/or higher electrolyte replenishment needs. (My favourite is Tri-Berry)
- U NATURAL HYDRATION is all-natural and contains a lower electrolyte profile to Nuun.
- NUUN ALL DAY HYDRATION helps you drink more water every day with crisp and refreshing flavors and is enhanced with an all-natural blend of vitamins and minerals making it perfect for your daily routine. (I can drink this all day, every day. I put it in my water when I am tired of just drinking plain old water. I love the Grapefruit Orange).
This spring, they announced that they were adding another member to their hydration family that was more on the endurance side.
NUUN ENERGY – Nuun Energy tablets balance hydration and sustain energy with a blend of B vitamins, 40 mg caffeine, and the same Optimal Electrolyte Blend as Nuun’s Active Hydration tablets.
Nuun Energy is an effervescent tablet that contains zero added sugars, under 12 calories and is stored in the same portable container.
Nuun Energy is launching with three flavors: Wild Berry, Lemon Lime and Cherry Limeade.

Scott used to pop tabs like this in his water bottles for Ironmans – is e-load it? I forget. I love Nuun’s logo, primarily because it’s my initial, lol…

Nuun’s logo is AWESOME. I can completely understand why Scott would want these for his Ironmans.

I feel like when I first tried Nuun, I put it in the disproportionate amount of water and I didn’t like it much but over the year, I’ve been giving it another go and have been loving it!

Nuun is seriously my favourite. It doesn’t taste as good if you don’t add the correct amount of water though, for sure!
