IRIS, Golf and the Happy Lens
After I shared my goals for June, I received a number of questions asking what new sport I was taking on?
I had never really played golf before in my life and I thought what better way to learn than in a tournament?!
Turns out, golf is not something that you can just wing and I have scheduled some time with friends who are fantastic at what they do so I can hone my skills for another upcoming tournament. I will share a post outlining what I have learned and how golf relates to running for me, but I wanted to talk about how it feeds into another mini challenge I have for myself.
I have given myself a new challenge over the summer which is to take up a new sport every month over June, July and August.
June – GOLF
July – KAYAKING
August – ADVENTURE RACING
I will keep you updated on how it goes and I am really excited to try a bunch of new sports. My goal in life is to not just be the best runner I can be, but to also be a well rounded athlete. All I can say is my sports closet is over flowing and I LIKE it.
Speaking of sports wear, when I was on the golf course last week, I was sporting a new pair of shades.
I recently went to my yearly eye check up at IRIS and picked up a new pair of SPY sunglasses. I MAY be a bit addicted to eyewear considering my growing collection.
IRIS has this cool machine that takes a photo of the back of your eye and shows the health of it. I always have trouble with the pictures though because apparently I’m a speedy blinker. Over time, environmental and chemical conditions can wear on the eye and cause damage. I was interested in SPY eyewear because they just released something called The Happy Lens .
The only of it’s kind in the market, the Happy Lens is formulated to let in the good rays from the sun while still keeping out the bad rays. With colour contrast and enhancing features, it allowed me to see all the contours on the golf course – but I still missed the ball on occasion…
I chose the Borough style which doesn’t seem to be available online, but you can check out the other members of the Happy Lens family here.
They fit my face snugly which is what I look for in my sunglasses and I have gotten compliments on them which distracted my team mates from my subpar golf performance.
Happy Lens indeed!
What new sport have you tried lately?
What makes a good pair of sunglasses to you?

Love those glasses on you! I’m supposed to go try on some Happy lenses at Iris soon too! 🙂 Love the ones you chose. I have a really narrow face so any sunglasses that don’t fall off are awesome to me – haha!
I haven’t tried any new sports lately. I’m afraid I don’t have very good coordination when it comes to balls and/or other equipment. This is why running works for me! I seem to be okay moving my feet….and that’s about it!

You will love the Happy Lens. I chose ones that are not in the regular line because I have a narrow face as well.
I think it is because running is all I can do that I want to try other sports. I am just too dang competitive! 😛
