Christmas List for Runners

What a big week, guys. Things just seem to be unusually heart wrenching around Christmas time. This week, the local blogging community was deeply inspired by the incredibly brave response from Robyn Baldwin upon her diagnosis of MS. You can read her post on it here.

Another huge thing that happened this week was my childhood dog, Lady, disappeared. I grew up with her and called her my “fur sister”. The day I moved was the day she left and we were certain that she had passed away because she was thirteen years young, but I received a call from my sister tonight to say she had been found! It is funny how animals have a personality and can be such a part of the family.

Despite hard, different or sad things happening around this time, it is still important to celebrate. To celebrate our family and friends, our health and the fresh New Year that is stretching in front of us!

For that reason, I put together a gift guide to help you out with that runner on your list, because we all can do with a little celebrating and loving.

$10 – 50

Road ID

RoadIDLogo_Color_Horizontal_JPG

This is a must, mainly because I don’t have it yet. Every time I start out on a run on a busy street, a deserted forest or a dangerous part of town I am reminded I should probably get one. This is the ultimate act of love for the runner on your list.

Training Journal – An old school and effective way for them to track their workouts.

Canadian Running Magazine

canadian running magazineThis is my favourite running magazine and I love opening it up and picking out my friends. A well written, deeply researched and entertaining read that lasts for an entire year. (Right now they have subscriptions on for $14.95 for TWO subscriptions so you can have a gift for yourself as well!)

Socks. I never ever ever have enough (mainly because my cat stole them and ate them at my old house…so maybe this isn’t an issue other runners have..)

DSCF3038

It could be revenge for all the times that this happened…

This ranges from regular old socks to amazing compression socks. They are the closest thing to your feet while you are running so make sure you take care of them!

Medal Hanger – they are bound to accrue some pretty crazy hardware over the year, so give them a snazzy place to show it off.

Underwear.

Saucony-Runderpants-Briefs-36044_a1xlChafing sucks. So give the gift of comfort and a bit of hilarity with these awesome Saucony underwear.

$50-100

 Strava Premium

premium_gift_email_1024x1024So they can geek out on which heart rate zone they stayed in longest during their workout and to analyze their Suffer Score. Because a suffer score is speaking a runner’s language. Price is $59 for a year.

Sign them up for a race

5peaks

This will be a sweet gesture for the avid runner on your list and a kick in the pants for the slacking runner, so a win over all. Some of my favourite local series are 5 Peaks for trails and Run Waterloo for road.

Running clothes.

Janji-mock-up-2Because seriously, seriously you can never have enough. My favourites this year are Run Janji.

$100 +

Polar M400.

m400-white-view-1-ac-exe-1-imp-1I run in the V800 (see the review here), but the new M400 is perfect for specifically runners and has a sleek design and intuitive interface. With the heart rate monitor, it retails for $260.

What is on your Christmas list this year?

Don’t forget to enter my Sports Suds giveaway! It closes tomorrow night and the winner will be announced on Monday!

My Christmas list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well something to clean my beard cloth would be amazing, I don’t know if you’ve heard but it’s made from the finest Egyptian cotton, although currently it’s quite dirty as my Majestic Beard tends to get dirty as I gallop like a magnificent gazelle through the mean streets and trails of Toronto. Like Thor or some other superhero I feel seeing my beard patrol the streets of Toronto gives the citizens comfort and reassurance… So yes, to be honest it’s imperative that Santa Claus looks out for all Torontonians by ensuring the beard remains strong like the CN Tower.

I can’t believe you were able to get wings on your cat. My lord, mine would have tore me to shreds for that move, probably while I slept. You can’t put anything past cats. I’m glad your dog turned up too. I can only imagine how awful that must have felt. Our animals are a part of the family for sure, even if I don’t fully trust my felines. 😉

Everyone’s doing the runners wish list thing! I’m going to have to get on that bandwagon 😉

I would add running fuel to my list. I go with GU for gels and Nuun for hydration. Actually last Christmas I got like six tubes of Nuun and was in my glory! I’m also looking for extra kit like hats, headlamps, and outerwear for various layering setups.
