Momentum Monday: Back to Regular Training!
Well, the spring race rush has officially past and I am headed into a bit more of a stable training schedule complete with sleeping properly, eating vegetables and pounding out intervals. I love racing, but often it throws me off, kills my sleep cycles and has me eating more protein bars than full meals due to the amount of travel I do.
On the radar for July is a fun Spartan Sprint and a sprint triathlon. I potentially will throw a fun 8 hr adventure race in as well called Rockstar but all of it is easy training and fun races to prep me for bigger events in the fall.
Due to a busy week at work last week and coming off pacing the 70 miler, it took a bit to get into the groove. I wasn’t able to start my training week until Thursday but it felt good to be able to hit my speed training paces again. My legs are certainly feeling the extra strain though which is to be expected as I jump back into things.
You will notice I have a few things on the list that hardly classify as training like golf and beach volleyball. I throw those in there because I view them as a vital way to reset and refocus. I am competitive so lots of racing means I need to maintain my mental edge. I do this by switching up what I am doing and engaging in other sports that I enjoy. I think it makes me a more well rounded athlete and plus, it is just a lot of fun. I will add cycling back in as soon as I have both bikes realigned. I will also be increasing some strength training and doing some additional swimming over the next month.
TRAINING LAST WEEK
MONDAY: 2 hours of beach volley ball
TUESDAY: REST
WEDNESDAY: 20 minute strength session
THURSDAY: 14 km with 1,200 m repeats
FRIDAY: 16 KM with 10 KM tempo, 2 hour hike
SATURDAY: 3 hours of beach volleyball, 5 hours of golf
SUNDAY: 16 KM
This week is even more of a normal training week which feels GREAT.
I don’t normally train with music, but a song I stumbled across recently that I absolutely love is called Sun is Shining by Axwell. It is a perfect summer workout tune.
Do you have a break from racing during the summer?
What is your favourite workout song right now?

I’m on a bit of a race from racing right now too and it feels good to have more time for some of the other activities I enjoy but have been neglecting.

Yay for getting back into your regular schedule!! 🙂 It sounds like you’ve got some really fun races coming up. Which sprint tri are you doing? My next race is the Vancouver Subaru Tri (olympic) on July 5th, then I have a break until Sea Wheeze on the 15th, and Challenge Penticton on August 30th! No real ‘breaks’ in there though because I’ll still be all about training. It’s going really well, but I’m VERY excited for September!

Are you doing any races in September or do you get a break after Challenge Penticton? I am very excited for you – you are going to do such an amazing job!
