Some of my favourite things and a giveaway!

You know those weeks where the weather is perfect? That was 100% this week. It could just be the fact that I am back to running and I am grinning ear to ear. Every night after work, I head out on another test run, slightly longer than the one before and gleefully report with a “PAIN-FREE” text to my coach.

This weekend is also a Canadian long weekend so I have a mini adventure planned with some friends who chose a long weekend to go camping together on a long weekend every year. There is so much fun that ensues with this group and I have confirmed that the campsite where we are staying leads directly onto some of the best single track mountain biking in Ontario, so you better believe that my mountain bike is coming with me!

I have also firmed up all of my travel plans for Colorado this week and am getting ready to go run 120 miles at Transrockies with Jenn Shelton and Rob Krar! I was so excited to see that they were on the list of athletes and I can’t wait to get to know them a little bit over the week we are racing together.

I literally could not be more excited to meet anyone else in the running world. Jenn is the most amazing mixture of humour and talent I have ever seen.

Meeting sports heroes and influencers in the health and fitness space is one of the huge perks of running and racing. Last week, I mentioned a number of the key note speakers and influencers at the canfitpro world fitness expo and gave away an entry to meet them and attend their sessions. I am announcing the winner today and giving away a final entry to the expo which is happening in a couple weeks on August 12 – 16.

I love a good expo because it is the perfect opportunity to test out new products and snag some sweet deals on gear and products! Some of my favourite companies that will be at the expo this year are:

Polar – Anyone who has read my blog for any length of time knows I use the V800 for my training.

Screen Shot 2014-11-16 at 3.02.06 PM It is the perfect watch considering that I am not just a runner, but a mountain biker, swimmer, cyclist, paddler, snowboarder, weight trainer and the list goes on. I am able to customize the watch for all the sports I do and create custom screens so I can look at what I want. They have some awesome new watches like the Polar A300. My coworker just bought one and is in love with it! For cyclists, they just came out with a snazzy bike computer.

Larabar – I eat a larabar almost every day.

My absolute favourite flavour is the peanut butter chocolate chip because it tastes like a dessert. Bonus points if you dip it in all natural peanut butter. I also die for the simple ingredient list they boast.

Goodlife Fitness – This is MY GYM. I love the people who greet me when I walk in, the massage therapists, the fitness instructors and the people who work out with me. In fact, the other morning, I walked in the doors (I haven’t been there for an early morning workout for a while because I have been doing a lot of training outdoors) and the regular guy at the front desk asked “WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!? We were worried about you!”

Also, I was recently out for brunch with one of my girlfriends that works at a gym. I was telling her how I am setting the incline on the treadmills to max and power hiking and wheezing away while other gym goers and staff send me concerned looks. She informed me there is no way that the Goodlife staff don’t have a nickname for me. She is probably correct.

There are so many more exhibitors to see at the expo and I would love to give you a free pass to check them out! Just leave a comment telling me who you most want to see at the expo and I will draw a winner next Friday! You can see the full list here.

The winner from last week’s giveaway is Jenny. Congratulations Jenny!

Oh my goodness, I SO want to know what your Goodlife nickname is! Maybe it’s something like Jess the Mountain Lion because of your hill climbing prowess. 🙂 I hope you have a fabulous time camping and mountain biking this weekend!

I love Larabars, that’s my favorite flavor too. I also have been oogling Polar watches for the moment my Garmin dies, which isn’t yet!! My lovely watch is hanging in there! Such a trooper.

I would love to know what data your Polar watch gives you for biking. I’m finally getting around to buying a bike computer, but I would also like a running watch (Sophie’s choice for athletes!) I’m so excited that Polar is coming out with a bike computer and I plan on piking their brains about it at the trade show (I’m going to CanFit Pro) but I would love to know what data your Polar watch gives you while on the bike!

Here is data from a recent bike commute I did: https://flow.polar.com/training/analysis/152963776
I can get HR feedback if I wear the monitor which I was not at the time.

Also, if you are ever at the GoodLife on Weber street on Sunday around 9:15 you should come to my spin class 🙂
