Beets for Athletes and Nova Scotia

Cheers to the weekend! This morning, I am boarding a plane and headed to this:

I have a 10 miler of some of Halifax’s biggest hills on tap this afternoon and ending up in gorgeous Lunenbourg this evening. I am celebrating the marriage of these stone cold foxes:

Nicki is just someone I do hand-stand push-ups with at work.  I will be sharing my adventures on Instagram over the weekend. Stand up push-ups and all.

Before I headed out, I wanted to talk a bit about beets. I wrote about the benefits of this veggies for endurance training here. In September, The Chopped Leaf (who is an awesome partner of mine who does provide compensation) contacted me about a new menu item they were adding called The Beet Bowl. Now. I have a long term love affair with the No. 1 Whole Bowl on the menu so the idea of switching anything up was going to be a stretch but I gave it a try.

What is the Beet Bowl?

On a particularly busy night after work, I headed over and grabbed it in full size with chicken. I was a little startled at first because I was expecting to eat cooked beets because SOMEONE didn’t read the description carefully, but it was delicious. I loved the warm rice which melted the feta and everything just…worked.

So, to celebrate their new bowl that may have stolen my vote for favourite menu item, they are hosting a contest each week where you can get loaded Chopped Leaf gift cards, a leather bound journal, reusable water bottle (HINT: take it back in and you can get their speciality fruit infused water for free) and lots more. You can register for the contest here.

That’s all from me! Have an amazing weekend, everyone and I will see you next week!
