Goals for June 2017

Oh heyyyyy!

I am back from a weekend full of gorgeous long rides, a Blue Jays game, an afternoon in the park with friends and a long run cheering on local racers in the Milton triathlon.

You will notice a bit of tape on my shin. I am happy to report that it gets better every single day but I continue to be cautious. (Well, as cautious as doing a 30 KM long run on it can be.) I decreased my mileage significantly last week and it paid off big time. I am being diligent with my therapy and happy to keep rocking that consistent training, pain-free. Also – the tape is this stuff. I don’t know what it is or how it works, but it does. When the first ingredient is ground beetle, you just don’t ask questions.

We are already a couple days deep in June so I wanted to take a look at what I want to accomplish, but first, let’s chat how I fared for May.

PR the half marathon distance

Capture

Check check. By over a minute. I now have a shiny new PR of 1:25:52 and you can read about it here if you missed the post.

Improve my swim technique

I spend most of my time currently trying not to get lapped because I have the pleasure of training with some really really great swimmers but I am working hard. I would say I have improved, but it is sometimes hard to see when you are in the thick of it. The main thing I am working on at the moment is making sure I extend my arm enough in the stroke, especially on my left side. I have finally nailed the rotation bit.

Start some new projects

It totally makes sense to start something leading into one of the busiest months of the year, right? Idiocy aside, I love side hustles and some of the things I am working on totally light me up inside so it never feels like work.

Start my garden

Please note, I did not say “grow a luscious, plant-filled, organised garden”. My seedlings did not fair the transplant and I haven’t been able to water them for over a week, but things just need to be in the ground to grow, right?

I have a feeling I will be visiting the farmers market for produce this summer…

So what do I have coming up this month?

Test out the Lake Placid Course

performance project

We are less than 2 months out from my first IRONMAN. (WHAT!) And this month, I am doing a training camp on the course so I can get familiar with each twist and turn as well as throw some deep volume training at my fitness to make sure I am ready to swim 4 KM, bike 180 KM and run 42.2 KM and not perish. The camp is with Performance Project, which I attended last year and I can’t wait for round 2.

See some old friends

You know how when you have a good friend move away and you always say you will visit them and then you never do? Me neither. If I say I am going to visit someone, you better believe I will and I am acting out on that this month. I have some fun travel coming up and I can’t wait.

Brush up on my golf game

I have a tournament coming up and I am an inconsistent golfer at best. I am hoping to get out before the game so I can hold my own. Or at least remember which club to use…

Head to Alberta to visit a new friend

When a girl finishes 8 seconds ahead of you in a race, it is probably in your best interest to let her know she motivated you. And then become friends with her. And then join a 100-mile relay team with her in the mountains. The last weekend of June, I will be joining my new friend and a team of speedy ladies from Critical Speed for a race and some seriously fantastic long training rides in the mountains.

Eat more vegetables

Things have gotten bad. Like, worst than you could imagine. I haven’t  been grocery shopping in over a month because of all the travel I have been doing and my meals are starting to get creative to put it lightly. It’s time my crisper drawer in the fridge saw some spinach again.

How about you? What were some of your wins for May?

Sounds like an exciting month up ahead! I’m so jealous that you’re visiting Alberta. I died and went to heaven when I visited in February. It’s such a beautiful place!

One of my wins for May was getting on my bike for my first REAL ride. I hate that I haven’t had much time to get comfortable on it but I’m hoping to nail that this month.

I am so excited you are biking. Honestly. I was thinking about you recently and thinking that we need to get out biking together soon.

I can’t believe summer is actually here already and I have a feeling it’s going to be a great one for adventures for both of us. Have fun in Alberta!
