July Coffee Date

I am totally getting my blog momentum back which is a good sign that things are stabilising a bit for me.  May and June were dedicated to training volume required for my half Ironman and now that it is over, I have a little bit more time to breathe and do summer things like sit with friends on patios and go swimming just for fun.

fun

I could dither on about what I have up my sleeve next because I have quite a few fun things on the go, but this feature is not about training, running or even really athletics. What else is going on in life for me?

Running with the Kenyans by Adharanand Finn. I am in a book club with some of my fellow Janji athletes and this is one we have chosen to discuss at the end of the summer. It is a mixture of investigative journalism and just a plain old good story and so far, I am loving it.

Currently Listening to

The other day I got this song in my head and couldn’t shake it so I have been on an Our Lady Peace binge for the past week.

Current Struggle

The other night, I was calmly cooking chicken while watching Downtown Abbey with my laptop over the sink. (What could go wrong?) Suddenly, after 8 years, three continents and zero upgrades, my trusty Macbook Pro just died. Entirely. My only comment was to look sadly at the machine and say “AW…this should have happened years ago.”

Side note: I am the HARDEST on my things. There are nicks and dents in my laptop from having no case and being dropped at train stations in Europe, spills from coffee and a complete lack of attention to any upgrades that should be made. Whether it is my running shoes, my tech gear or anything I use regularly, I need to get the best because it will NOT be babied.

I am taking her into the Apple store to investigate if the situation is salvageable, but I may be looking at buying another one. I always said that Macbook was the best computer I have ever had and if mine ever died, I would snap up another one immediately.

NOTHING. BECAUSE MY LAPTOP DIED.

Currently Loving

Snapchat filters. I sadly am getting the mileage of a 4 year old out of them and Mark gets some glorious race week texts from me.

Currently (Almost) Eating

Glass.

There have been two incidents in the past week or so where I have dropped something delicious which is in a glass container and it shatters onto the ground. Both times, I have had the knee jerk reaction to grab some food, wipe some glass off and begin eating it like a little savage before my civilised mind overrides my primal instincts and I realise I could and probably will die if I continue. July has been a struggle.

Currently drinking

Lemon water. Every morning. Before anything else. #JulyGoals

Currently Excited About

Everything. Summer is the best time to be alive.

Colin O’Brady completed the Explorers Grand Slam for the world record this past May. A past pro triathlete, he is now an explorer who is raising 1M to combat childhood obesity through his Beyond 72 initiatives. COOL.

What is going on with you guys? Any cool things I should be watching, listening to, reading?

That sucks about your laptop! But it sounds like mine… there was one time where I was in line at airport security, moved my backpack and somehow my mac came flying out (no case) and smacked on the ground. It was actually OK! But my Dad was on the other side, just watching in horror! Haha. I break things all the time, so I have also considered eating food that was in glass and has fallen! 😛 I was just listening to a few podcasts with Colin, so incredible!

Gahh so sorry about your laptop Jess! To be honest I’m surprised mine has lasted too, given all the food it’s been exposed to while sitting on my kitchen counter as I create recipes! I hope you can get her to come back to life (or a nice shiny new one) soon. Do they make Otter Boxes for Macbooks?! 😛 Right now I am most excited about August because YOU are coming and it is going to be the BEST TIME EVER! Well, only if you stop eating glass I suppose. Please be careful!! 🙂

Oh no, so sorry about your laptop. That is a bummer! I hate when my technology just breaks like that. I have been loving lemon water lately too. So good and refreshing!!
