The Dress: Part 3

Another fitting title for this blog post is UPDATESSSS! But I figured that you would be irritated before you began, so now that I have you – let’s talk about my dress.

You may have remembered about the huge dilemma I got myself into here, and what I did about it here. This post is the next step in the saga.

So, I dropped it off at the best dry cleaners in Waterloo Region and waited with anticipation. Anticipation turned to anxiety as a month past. Anxiety turned to anger as 2 months past. After 4 months of popping in and out and receiving word that “they had just sent it back because the cleaner didn’t do a good enough job” and that they “would call me on Monday” (they didn’t) and acquiring a new name for myself when I walk into the store “Purple Nicole Miller?”, I finally (finally) got that dress back.

And you know what? I still needed to pay for it. And the stain is not completely out. But they washed it so much, the hem came out and they literally re dyed it to try and get it out. The tailor at the shop told me that I was the cleaner’s hardest case in their history and “that they loved the challenge.” (Said through gritted teeth, I am sure).

But I took it out for a spin at a company Christmas dinner and the second I put it on, I forgot all about the issues that I had with the dress. It is still perfect and I still love it an unusual amount.

Why going to a bookshop is a lot like praying in Paperback Prayer by the incredibly talented Lindsay. (We have already decided I will be her book agent when her book comes out).

My friend Michael writes about how to have healthy holidays.

That’s a wrap for this week, folks. I will be back with bells on next week. I have some exciting plans this weekend including another Christmas dinner, going to the Christkindl Market with a friend, going to The Messiah and more… It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas…

The Dress: Part 2

I received a lot of comments from the Dress Post, where I explained how my brand new, gorgeous Nicole Miller dress met with tragedy.

Well, two weeks later, it is still at the dry cleaners and I am heart broken. Guys, it was the best dress I have ever laid my grubby little paws on.

Today, I received an email from a representative of Nicole Miller sharing some important tips on how to get stains out of clothing. 2 weeks too late, but appreciated nevertheless. Now I know what to do if/when my dress comes back, still stained.

Ironic that I used this same tactic (albeit much more primal) with the original oil spill in my car. However, I doubt the toothbrush would have worked with 2 litres of olive oil.

Recently I was discussing my various plights with a good friend of mine and she said “Jessica, there are things in life that happen that only could happen to you…and I am grateful because that means they are not happening to me.”

Noted. I may be back with baby powder and a toothbrush.

When life gives you olive oil, you throw a scarf over the stain and dance

Whew!

What a week! Three weddings, two work events and instructing 6 am spin class…and it is just half way through!

I absolutely delight in being busy, but my body was not so sure. I have come down with a sore throat and the inevitable cold is looming, so I am pounding the garlic, chaga and oregano. Good thing Jesse doesn’t see me all week..

A bit of a recap, shall we?

Part 1 – Tori’s Wedding:
Backing up a bit to the Bachelorette Party I hosted at our house on one of the last truly beautiful summer days. We had a wonderful time eating, swimming and toasting the beautiful bride.

On the day of the wedding, I woke up at 5 am to get to my hair dressers on time. I had all my belongings in the back of my car, with my dresses carefully draped on my back seats (remember that). Getting ready was smooth and the wedding was a treasure. From a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony in the morning to a wonderful reception with brunch as the meal – it was absolutely wonderful.
More pictures of the day:

The beautiful couple

Me and my main man.

This boy makes me laugh – I believe he had just whispered “Who let the fox in here?”

Best wishes to the beautiful couple. I love you both.

I saw the couple off with everyone else and headed to my car to speed off to the next wedding. It was Jesse’s close friend so Jesse had been there since the early afternoon. I stopped at Jesse’s house to change and went to pull my dress out of the back of my car.

Part 2 – Digressions:

Ok. Let me freeze the frame and insert a digression. A number of weeks ago, Jesse decided to buy two bottles of cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil because I mentioned I liked the bottles and he really likes olive oil. He placed them in the back seat and we went on our merry way, until the evening when I helped him unload them, when we discovered that 2 litres of olive oil had spilled into my backseat. (My car still smells like a chip wagon…) Regardless, knowing this, I had shrewdly placed a towel in my back seat to protect my dress.

Unfreeze and fall into another digression. (What?)
Upon graduating university, I was feeling particularly wealthy one day and Mark Nunes was having a sale. My eyes fell on the most stunning silk dress I had ever seen and I knew I had to have it. I didn’t want it, it chose me. Me and a significant number off my bank account. But it was worth it when I picked it up from the tailors the following week. I put it in front row centre of my wardrobe and admired it in the weeks leading up to the wedding.
The wedding day – I repeat – I laid it carefully in the backseat on a towel.

UNFREEZE.

You probably already know what I am about to tell you. That horrid knot in the pit of your stomach. Yeah. Happened to me too. I called Jesse, catching him mid-wedding socializations to tell him the story. He is perfect in a situation like that because he always has a worse story.

What did I do? Blotted some stain remover on the back and wandered around getting ready while it dried. I then put on the dress and threw a colour blocking scarf over my shoulder and pranced into the wedding reception. I ate a gorgeous meal and when it became dark and shadowy enough, I danced the night away with my best friend.

[It is now at the only eco-friendly and ridiculously high priced dry cleaners in Kitchener Waterloo and I anxiously wait for Friday when I get the yay or nay on whether it will come out. I need to wear it to a wedding this weekend!]
Moral: I guess when life gives you olive oil, you throw a scarf over the stain and dance.
Stay tuned – with two more weddings this weekend, there are bound to be more adventures!
