Fashion Friday: Poppin’ Some Tags

Welcome to the first bits of the LONG WEEKEND! I have a weekend full of friends and drywalling. Yes, you read that right. On Monday, I am helping my sister at her new house. It is coming along nicely and I will have lots of pictures for you next week.

This week, we are shifting gears.

fashionfridayFor those of you who care little about fitness (tsk), this is YOUR day!

You may be asking yourself, “What on earth does Jessica know about fashion?” And you are correct in asking that.

This one has enough fashion sense for the two of us:

DSCN1108But this past weekend, after declaring my love for the song Thriftshop, my friend Lindsay told me that we were going to go thrifting.

And thrift we did!

We shut down the place and then went for coffee to celebrate our achievements. And then we shut down that place. (What? We love to talk).

Anyways, I thought I would show you all the magnificent finds I sniffed out. And because I will never be a beautiful blonde who has people dying to take a photograph of me lolling about in gorgeous clothing, I took some quick snapshots from my computer last night after arriving home from the gym, sweat crusted and exhausted. Almost the same thing.

First. I bought a calfskin leather Longchamp wallet which will go perfectly with my bag that I snapped up in Paris in 2011.

Second – a tweet Parasuco blazer.

jacketThirdly, a Zara jacket for spring and fall.

You say running from the computer to get in the frame - I say art.

You say running from the computer to get in the frame – I say art.

And finally, the steal of the night. A tailored wool blazer with a REAL FUR collar and a matching skirt. Quite MadMenesque. [Also, the irony that I work for an environmental journal has not escaped me…maybe NOT a work blazer.]

Honestly, this post is so many things wrapped into one: a tour of my house, a glimpse into my closet and a display of my modelling talent. Long weekend style.

So now that I have kick started it – go enjoy it!

What are you doing for the long weekend?

Are you a thrifter? If so, what is your latest treasure?

Looks good 🙂 I especially like the first blazer. I am a huge thrifter (also thoroughly enjoy sales … I believe they go hand in hand 😉 lol). I haven’t been shopping-shopping lately (either to a thrift store or otherwise), but I did find some cute sweaters at WalMart (and they were on SALE). They’re good work sweaters 🙂

    Have a great long weekend!

Sales are always the best. But it may be bred into us by our mothers…

I love having a friend that can say things like, “the bag I snapped up in PARIS!” Ugh, so jealous. But seriously, I’ve never been much of a “thrifter.” I lack the patience of sifting through “stuff” looking for something of value and probably give up too soon. But, like the Matcha tea, this has inspired me to give it a try. I admit, the last time I went thrifting I was so consumed with getting shawarma that I couldn’t focus on anything else. Also, where are the good hot spots for thrifting? What are your professional suggestions?

This weekend includes a consultation meeting with a photographer followed by a coffee at DVLB and just maybe a Thrift Store. In honour of Fashion Friday.

I know. It felt like a good day to casually drop that in there. 😛

Thrifting can be awesome if you plan for it and come fully caffeinated and then find awesome stuff. But if you don’t have the perfect balance of all three, then you just start feeling as if you are in a Napolean Dynamite film.
I think we should go thrifting. And then get shawarma.

Yay! Fashion Friday! When I first started checking out Value Village in high school, I was under the impression that I’d find limitless, unique and wonderful items. There was definitely a learning curve in the patience department. Shops at the mall make it really easy, so it takes some time to learn to see thrift shopping as treasure hunting. My best and latest find is that burgundy velvet blazer!

I know. Stupid Teen Vogue had me thinking there was a Louis Vuitton handbag behind every grandma cat sweater (although, those are pretty awesome too…)

      Your blazer rocks.

I like thrifting! 🙂 And garage sales can be fun too. And sales that are as good as thrifting or garage saling. 🙂 I love finding something that I really, really, really like/LOVE and not paying much for it!!!
Where did you find your treasures? Or where do you like to do your thrifty shopping?

I found them at Talize in Kitchener – honestly, my favourite thrift shop.
