Zeal Optics Review

Zeal Sunglasses and Why I’m Not Cool

When it comes to fashion, if it is not functional, I will probably not wear it.

I did my hair this morning, standing under a hand dryer positioned high on the wall at the varsity pool.

I eat most of my dinners in running shoes and spandex because I’ve run in the house too hungry to change into regular clothes (at least that is how I feel at the time).

My shoes are often flat soled and I will only bring my heels out on the rarest occasions.

Basically what I am saying is that I am not cool.

Occasionally though, I find a company that is cool enough to make up for my lack of fashion sense but practical enough to suit me.

run or dye

(As if practical has ever been a word to describe me…)

I recently ran into Zeal Optics  and they are one the most laid back companies I have heard of (which makes sense because they are in the Maui Jim family), but what I was most impressed with (other than their sunglasses) is their look books. I was informed by the local rep that they take the team out, do sports and have fun and their look book is born. Their photos make you feel as if you are in the middle of an adventure.  How…COOL.

Fortunately, they thought that a girl who spends her free time exploring outside and who uses her vacation time to run 120 miles in the mountains was a good fit for them as well.

They offered to let me try a couple pairs of their sunglasses and that’s when the cool factor went up even further.

We met at Insight Eyecare in Waterloo, Ontario to check out the new line and test out a couple pairs. I got to meet the owners of the store and they are as cool as Zeal. I mean, they do in house photo shoots with upcoming lines of eyewear with their staff…

It is so much fun to see a local company be so stylish, creative and innovative.

The gentlemen of Zeal and Insight helped me pick out my first pair of ZEALS – The Laurel Canyon.

I have never owned a truly “good” pair of sunglasses before because I didn’t trust myself with them. I have been surprised at how well I have taken care of these, but I think it is mainly because they are mostly just on my face.

I love that they are polarized, they fit my face well and yes, I have tested them on a run, on a cross country ski, on a bike, on a snowboard and even wore them to race.

I realize they are not a performance pair of sunglasses, but it is important to me that my sunglasses can play as hard as I do. The fact that they make me look, well, cool? That’s a bonus.
Zeal Optic’s tagline is Explore More. If you could pick a sport or a place in the world that you could explore further, what or where would it be?

I feel like as far as hobbies etc. go we don’t have much in common (except being of the race that knows Joseph) but one of my favorite memories of you and I at EBI was when most of the other girls spent all afternoon doing their hair for the banquet, you and I went for a walk and breezed happily into the dorms with about 15 minutes to get ready to go. 🙂 For some reason this post made me think of that.

I completely forgot about the race of Joseph! YES! Cheers to someone else who can get ready from start to finish in 15 minutes. 😀
