26 things I have learned

Hey guys,

This week has flown by which meant I sort of glossed over my birthday post. I turned 26 last weekend and life has been too busy for me to even think about the fact that I am older. In fact, as I write this, I am coming in from working a 17 hr work day and realizing I need to be up way too early to get in some training. With moving, some unexpected life situations and lots of work and personal things on the go, I have cut out vegetables and sleep  – two things I am hoping to reinstate once I settle in to my new place.

I wanted to do a post on 26 things I have learned since turning 26.

1. Don’t compare yourself to others. There will ALWAYS be people who are lesser and greater than you.

2. The only constant thing in life is change. Roll with it.

3. Figure out what you want to do and do it. If you don’t know, try as many things as you can and find out what that thing is.

4. People talk. They will be nasty sometimes. Ignore it and keep following what you know to be true.

5. Compliment people. I try to go out of my way to compliment one person a day unexpectedly. People are so used to criticism that they soak it up.

6. Life is balanced. You will always have the good with the bad.

7. When you are going through a hard time, look around you. Look at the people who are there beside you and prioritize them in the good times.

8. Like yourself. If you don’t, who else will?

9. Don’t burn bridges. Sometimes people will hurt you for no reason but that is not reason enough to hurt them back.

10. Listen. Everyone has a story worth sharing.

11. Avoid people who are negative or speak harm on other people. You become like the people you spend time with so surround yourself with quality people.

12. Set goals, but always remember to take time to celebrate your achievements.

13. Don’t be fake about anything. Be honest and true in what you love and don’t make apologies for it.

14. Find the beauty in silence. Whether it is driving without music, sitting and meditating or reflecting alone or just being in companionable silence with someone, silence is important.

15. Loving someone will inevitably break you. Love anyways. The great thing about love is even if it burns you, it always has a way of resurfacing again.

16. Don’t be afraid to get older. Celebrate your experiences that come with filling up your life with days and gracefully accept that you need to warm up on the track a little longer or stretch a bit more than usual.

17. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Give yourself a free pass to make a mistake. But learn from it.

18. Most of the things you are worrying about right now will barely be memorable in 2 weeks. You don’t need those worry lines.

19. Find mentors and learn from them.

20. Foster your passions and focus on your strengths.

21. What is meant for you will never miss you and what misses you was never meant for you.

22. If it can’t be solved on a 2 hour run, you need to just let it go for today.

23. Strive to be happy. It can be active work but if you decide to be, you will be.

24. You are often doing better than you think you are.

25. No one cares as much as you think they do. This can be a blessing and a curse but the universe does not revolve around you.

26. Never stop playing, exploring or learning.

One more quick thing before I let you go for the weekend:

Today is an important day for Goodlife Fitness. They are launching a special program called PartcipACTION, which is a way to encourage people to get up and get moving! All day, a workout at Goodlife is FREE to everyone!

I love this video about Chris who is talking about how he changed from a person he didn’t know to a healthier and more active person. One of the biggest pieces of advice he gives? Just start.

What are some of the things that you have learned lately?

What is your favourite way to stay active?
