August Coffee Date

Happy Monday friends! I had the best weekend! It looked a little like this:

I started my Saturday morning at Dundas Valley 5 Peaks trail race with tiger pace duties. Me and a few other volunteers led the kids in a 1 KM and 3 KM race. Some of those kids are smoking fast!

Because I just raced last weekend, I wanted to run the course, but not push the pace. One of the biggest things that causes injury for me is racing too much so I chose to run with my friend Gemma instead who wasn’t racing either and it was the BEST. We got caught up on life and survived the crazy heat that we had on the Saturday. (Aside – if you want a discount on the last race of the series in September, use JESSICA for a discount. 5 Peaks doesn’t pay me for any of this – I just have been running the series since 2010!)

Saturday night, I changed and headed to a friends wedding. It was such a fun one because my entire family was there and we spent the night laughing, eating awesome food and tearing up the dance floor with our newly married friends.

The rest of the weekend was spent with friends, playing with kittens, long bike rides, eating cake and celebrating my grandparent’s 60th anniversary.

It has been a long time since I did a catch up on just general life so here is a few things I have been loving, exploring, learning and doing…just stuff I would talk to you about if we were having coffee:

Blog I am loving

Photo by Natalie CahillAlex Hawkins is a Kitchen Director of a small boutique bakery in NYC. I like her writing style and I really love cake.

Currently Watching

Well. Up until last night. Olympics. So incredibly proud and inspired by our athletes and absolutely loving this commercial.

Book I am Reading –

Big Magic is a really great book on how to insert creativity into your life and not worry about how others will perceive it. I really love the short, digestible chapters because it allows me to dive in and out without worrying about leaving too much time in between readings. It is something I am trying to do a little more in my life. I am NOT an artist by any means, but I am exploring a few things I really like to do outside of athletics that are fun for me such as cooking and journalling. Some of my favourite things that I have made lately are here and here.

What I am Eating –

Seriously? Everything. #VacationLife

Favourite Song

Best Podcast Episode I’ve Listened To

Toss up between Tim Ferris’s interview with Tony Robbins on achievement vs fulfillment and Tina Muir’s interview with Ben and Steph Bruce on how to accept who you are and where you are right now.

New Habit

Doing my nails which has stemmed out a necessity as I am currently rocking 4 black toenails. I have discovered the new summer collection by Essie and I am loving it.

How about you? What is new and awesome in your life? Any podcasts or songs I should be listening to?

Hooray for Olympics and nail painting!! I’m also loving Essie colors and did mine last night while watching Marie Forleo’s video interview with Tony Robbins. I will have to download Tim’s podcast episode too because I love the topic! For me, August was awesome because YOU were here, and because of Seawheeze. Currently loving: sleep, sea wall runs, and redesigning my blog!

Yum is that Cafe Medina in the food picture? So good! Rise has also been on my running playlist on repeat. I’m just back from vacation in PEI so this week is all about getting back into life and ramping up marathon training again!

[…] So last coffee date, I said I was reading Big Magic. I read this excerpt and took a photo. Just a reminder that risks are important. […]
