Toronto Runs Together – 2019 Scotiabank Marathon

The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will always have a soft spot in my heart. It was my very first marathon and if you want to have a perfect guide of what NOT to do, you can read my recap from 2013.

This year is a special year because although I have ran it almost every year in some capacity since my first marathon, I have never been a pacer.

Toronto Runs Together is the tag line for the marathon and I have never felt it as profoundly as I have this year. I am the proud pacer for the 1:45 group and there is an incredible group of athletes running in my group.

To celebrate the fact that this race is 3 days away, I wanted to share some of the people who are running on Sunday. If you want to be featured between now and Sunday, fill out this form and I would love to share your story!

Greg Chrzan

Greg is running the half (in my pace group!!!) and it is his first time doing the STWM.

I asked him what he is most looking forward to:

Being able to connect with 25,000 other runners in a shared experience that we’ll complete together. There are many reasons why I run, but I run for all those people who can’t and wish they could.
And what he was most nervous about:
I’m nervous about setting expectations too high and disappointing myself. I’m very self-critical in all aspects of my life, whether it be fitness, work or personal life. I need to remind myself that everyone is here to help me get to the finish line and although our journey’s may have been different we’re all going to finish in the same place – the heart of Toronto.
I asked him what Toronto Runs Together means for him and he responded:
Toronto is a diverse city; inclusive of different cultures, experiences, and identities. We celebrate runners and the sport of running – regardless of where they came from, where they started, or where they’re going. When I built this campaign I wanted to inspire all runners to feel welcome in Toronto, and as runners to identify with the following values: diversity and motivation. Toronto Runs Together is a campaign which creates an inclusive running community that spans all races, sexuality, ages, and athletic ability. No matter who you are, let’s lace up our running shoes (hopefully NB) and run together on October 20th – as a family of runners.

Morgan Scoyne

morgan
Morgan is running the full marathon in honour of her friend Shannon Bloche who tragically passed away earlier this year. In her honour, Morgan’s race goal is to encourage 42 new organ donors and raise $3,333 for charity in Shannon’s name.
To help Morgan out, you can become a donor here.  To donate to her charitable cause, you can do that here.
I asked Morgan what she is most excited about:
Accomplishing something new, stepping outside my comfort zone and doing it with a larger purpose
And what she was most nervous about:

The unknown from kilometre 30 to 42

She’s looking to run around 4 hours and for her, Toronto Runs Together means encouraging, supporting and using one another for a needed push – cheerleaders and fellow runners alike.

Now go sign up to be an organ donor!

Mark Cullen

This obscenely handsome man is running the full marathon and aiming for a 2:55.
He is most looking forward to the camaraderie with his fellow runners and most nervous about the distance.
For him, Toronto Runs Together means community coming together for one big final celebration for the year.

Janice Collins

janice
Janice is running the half marathon and is looking forward to celebrating the accomplishment with her family, friends and fellow Limitless Performance members.
I asked what she was most nervous about:
Throughout training I have good long runs and some that have not be pleasant. I hope it’s a good morning.
She hopes to feel “somewhat good” when she finishes the race. 🙂

Mitch Blaine

mitch
The beauty on the far right is doing the half marathon and will be running in my pace group as well!
He is most excited about being with great people 🙂 and he is most nervous about rain and cold. Considering he did a half ironman earlier this year, I think he will do JUST fine.

Jocy Curtis

Jocy
Jocy is running the half marathon and the thing she is most looking forward to is the meal afterwards. (Respect). She is most nervous about the actual run/ mind games during the run.
Her race goal is to complete it and if she were to put a time, she is hoping to run around 2:30.

For her, Toronto Runs Together means inclusive to everyone. Supporting and encouraging other runners on the course.

Wishing everyone the best in the last three days leading up to the run. I can’t wait to RUN TOGETHER in three days! Want to be featured? Fill out this form!
If you are running, swing by the New Balance booth at the expo and say hi!
