A Perfect Shoe

One of the hardest things to find as a female athlete is proper shoes outside of running.

Unfortunately, being an athlete doesn’t always pay all that much, which means I spend the bulk of my days in an office setting where it is expected that I do not show up in running shoes and spandex.

What you wear on your feet does matter. Wearing heels every day would set me up for some serious injuries on the trails and this has been a long time issue for me. Don’t get me wrong – if it wouldn’t cause issues, I would be rocking my Louboutin’s every day to the office, but there is a point in every runner’s life where they need to chose between heels or running. I just chose running.

This winter, I was invited to a Vionic shoe launch and I fell in love with the company. Here is a company that understands that the people who are not wearing heels are not necessarily doing it because they hate nice shoes. Quite the opposite.

The designer of the line went up to explain the make of the shoe and ended with “I wish I could say something sexy about the shoes, but the reality is, it’s just a bloody footprint – and it works.”

This past week, I started a brand new job and Vionic sent me a pair of shoes to celebrate in one of the company colours. I have been rocking those “footprints” all over the office and it has been like walking on a cloud all day.

I chose the Olivia ballet flat that is a dainty looking shoe that features biomechanical orthotic technology that supports your feet and helps realign the lower legs, reducing over-pronation and associated aches and pains. Take that, heels.

I am thrilled with this line because options are so limited when you want a nice looking shoe that works with dress pants but won’t ruin your racing season. In my opinion, Vionic really doesn’t have many competitors. I have been searching hard since last summer to find a company that provide dress shoes for athletes and this is one of the first that I have stumbled across.

vionic

They are quality, provide exceptional customer service and receive glowing customer reviews online. They are a reasonable price and have a 30 day guarantee. I recommend Vionic Shoes to any athlete who is looking to ensure they are taking care of their feet outside of training and any person who just wants to be, well, comfortable throughout the day. I’ve been walking hard through the office in them all week and I actually feel as if I have running shoes on my feet. You cannot beat that!

What are your favourite dress shoes?

From a guy point of view my favorite shoes are Steve Madden dress shoes. They have a couple of pairs with a very low heel-toe drop keeping them nice flat and some of their shoes have the funky prints on the bottom too!

Nice! Honestly, I may be biased, but I think men have it a lot better than women when it comes to office shoes. Nothing like walking in heels that will make you more grateful to have running shoes. 😛

Per our conversation yesterday, I NEED to get some of these, especially since I stand at my desk all day! So far I haven’t found a really good pair of dress shoes that are supportive enough for my “runner’s feet”, but I’m definitely searching because I don’t have any time for injuries this year! Happy Friday my dear! 🙂

I hear you. Honestly, this was the first pair that I have found that is comfortable enough and supportive enough to keep my feet happy even if I am standing all day.

Have you ever tried Tory Burch flats? They’re really comfortable too!

Are these available in any local (KW-ish) stores?

Hm, not that I am aware, but I order mine online and have no difficulty. HIGHLY recommend them.
