Goals for March 2016
Good morning all!
It is so hard to believe that we are in March this week already, but that means nicer weather for outdoor training sessions which I am not upset about.
It also means it is time to look at my goals for March and also take a peek back at how I did in February.
1. Stretch and Roll 3 x a week. A
I had a few twinges throughout the month, but staying on top of therapy was key. I increased my track work and developed some light shin splints in my left leg. I went for a sports massage and acupuncture and they cleared up immediately!
2. Meet with my Financial Advisor and increase savings percentage. A+
DONE!
3. Do my first orienteering race as lead navigator. A+
I was pleased with this race. Even though I did not clear the course, I was able to read the map and make a plan of attack while on the fly. I am looking forward to practicing and increasing this skill as I go on. You can read the recap here.
4. Race something I have never raced before. B
Unfortunately, do to circumstances beyond my control. I ended up not going for this race, however I did complete the Run Waterloo 8 KM for the first time last weekend. Instead of the race this past weekend, Mark and I made the best of the situation and tackled my over arching goal for the year, which was travel to a new place every month. We headed to NYC this past weekend and went on a 100 KM cycle to train for our half IRONMAN this summer and check out the city.
5. See some old friends. A+
There were dinner parties galore! So good to catch up with friends and keep the momentum going.
So what do I have on my list for March?
1. Get my taxes done.
Ugh Ugh Ugh. I have been working with my friend Lisa, who specializes in taxes for bloggers and entrepreneurs and she has given me a huge list to round up. Although I don’t love this goal, it will be good to get it all crossed off my list by the end of March.
2. Add a swim into my training at least once a week.
If this half IRONMAN is going to be a thing, I should at least train a bit, right? I am not taking it super seriously, but I also am respecting the distance and effort involved and making sure I hone some race specific skills before July comes.
3. Run a 5 KM PB.
This month, I am planning on racing the Laurier Loop which is a local 5 KM with a route that is near my house. I ran a PB in December of 18:45 min but I have been working hard at speedwork and would love to see an improvement.
4. Get my team in place at work.
I recently received a new position at work which increased my role and responsibilities. I am hoping to have all of my strategies instigated and new positions hired for by the end of March. It is a steep learning curve and big shoes to fill, but I am up for the challenge.
5. Century Ride
Mark and I have a goal for 2016 of doing 12 Grand Fondos. Every month, we will do a century ride in a new place – in January, it was the coast of California and in February, it was along the city line of New York City. Impossible to tell where March’s will be, but with warmer weather coming, I can only imagine it will be amazing.
Ironman 70.3 Muskoka was tough, but you’ll do great!
Thanks Lisa! Any tips from the course would be awesome!
