April Coffee Date
Hi friends.
It’s high time we took a moment to exhale and catch up properly. Nothing run related – just life.
What I am Reading These Days
How Bad Do You Want It by Matt Fitzgerald has been on my To-Read list for a long time. I used a gift card I received for Christmas and snapped it up. He uses stories from professional athletes to share the science of sports psychology and I am finding it to be an amazing read. I’m looking forward to using some of the ideas he shares in my upcoming races.
Current Worst Habit
Killing plants. I don’t know what my issue is, but within days of owning a plant, they wither and die under my care. I either over water or forget they exist. I have even managed to kill my succulents which is not supposed to be possible.
Current Music
Hall of Fame by The Script. I absolutely love this song and use it for sprints on the bike and whenever I need a pump up song.
Current favourite blog
Kelly from Run Selfie Repeat. Remember that story that went viral about a runner during a half marathon that took sly photos of hot guys throughout the run? That is Kelly and aside from having an incredible story, she brings her humour and zest for life to her blogging. Lots of inspirational posts and hilarious videos – this is a fantastic blog.
Current Success
Work. I have my team in place and we are firing on all cylinders. It feels good to start having brainstorming meetings for amazing and creative public relations projects we can do rather than feel like I am in reactionary mode.
Current Drink
Every morning after my workout, I shake up a scoop of Extra Energy Greens + in orange and drink it while I make breakfast. It tastes just like orange juice without the sugar and it gives me an awesome kick of energy for the day.
Current Food
Peanut Butter. To say I am addicted is a gross understatement.
Current Confusion
I was recently having dinner at my parents house and when I looked out into our yard, there was a wild turkey walking across the lawn. When I asked my father for clarification, he just mentioned that there was a raft of wild turkey’s living in the forest beside their house. Okkkkk.
Current Obsession
Podcasts. When I go on walks or drive to work, I am always listening to podcasts. Some of my favourites right now are Endurance Planet, the Rich Roll podcast, UltraRunner Podcast and the Tim Ferriss Show. I love learning about interesting people doing exceptional things.
Current Quote
For all of you…
I love that Matt Fitzgerald book, I use how bad do you want it as my mantra all the time now. And I love podcasts too. It’s all I listen to when running or working out.
I have been wanting to read it for SO LONG. I love how he uses stories to back the science.
And podcasts are my heart!
So intrigued by that book! I’ll have to definitely go and check it out.
I’m also about half way through a tub of the same greens extra energy – it’s good, and even better mixed with diluted raspberry juice + water 😉 just sayin…haha
And you may see more turkeys in the next month or so…just be careful if you’re on the trails, they can startle the living day lights outta you… I speak from experience hahaha
Raspberry juice and greens +? You are brilliant!
Gahhh this is such great post Jess! I feel like I’m a little more caught up on your life despite being hundreds of miles away, and it sounds like you’re doing awesome. I got a good laugh out of the wild turkey thing because, while entirely random, if it were to happen at anyone’s home, it would be yours. 🙂 Also, I love that you’re digging The Script – I ADORE them!! My favourite songs are Science & Faith, and For the First Time. I could listen to them allll day (and have.) Jam sesh this summer fo sho! 🙂
We need to actually follow through with a Skype date. Let’s make it happen in April!
I’ve had that book in my Kindle for MONTHS and keep pushing it off for other books. I’m bumping it to the top of my “to read” list because I know I’ll love it – I’m a big fan of Matt Fitzgerald.
Highly highly recommend it! You will be so glad you did.
