Goals for December

YAY! It’s the holiday season and I absolutely love it! I mentioned that I find November a bit blah and I love the sparkle and hustle of December. I love holiday parties, connecting with friends and family and playing Christmas music.

Before I get too excited about December, let’s take a look at what I set out to do in November.

Swim twice a week

capture

Try 3x a week! I made some big gains in the pool this month and I even graduated into a speedier lane at my triathlon swim club. I cannot believe I am saying it, but I am actually enjoying the pool this time around.

Celebrate a fantastic season

ride

There were parties everywhere as I wound down my off-season and started focusing on goals for 2017.

Deep clean my apartment and set up my training room for real this time.

I deep cleaned. I listed things on Kijiji. I re-organized everything. And I am loving the training! It turned out a little homier than I expected because I kept all my couches – I just like having people over too much to go the aggressive training route that I originally thought I was going to.

Do glute strength exercises once a day

This was not once a day but I was pretty consistent. I am going to say maybe 3-4 times a week. I am feeling strong.

Limit cell phone time.

I actually did pretty great with this one. I love being connected but limiting screen time helps me to be more efficient with my time and get everything done. I am continuing this trend as my training starts to ramp up in December.

Speaking of December, I have some pretty big plans.

Visit my baby sister for Christmas in Florida

12592204_10156473157300704_2135250640876811025_n

This little nugget left for treatment for her eating disorder in September and she is unable to come home for the holidays so we are going to her! My parents and Mark and I are headed out on Boxing Day and I look forward to giving her a hug in real life.

Make my vision board for 2017

Every year I make a vision board and I have started planning some of my goals for 2017, but I love making a visual representation so I can see it every day. Look back on the goals I set for 2016 here.

Decorate my little pad for Christmas

I didn’t do this last year because I am not a huge decorator but I am wanting to at least put up a few things to make it sparkle, especially because I am doing my best to be around home a little more and less on the go over the holidays. (Key word is TRYING).

Stretch and strengthen my hamstrings every day

Ugh. I continue to have a tight right hamstring. And if I remember to regularly stretch it, it improves. I am going to try to stretch and strengthen every single day. This is something I am able to run through without a problem, but I don’t want it turning into something chronic. What are your favourite hamstring stretches?

And this is the last goal setting post for 2016! It has been an incredible year and I appreciate your support and feedback. I am going to get you all a little more involved with this process in 2017, so look for changes in this feature!

Look at you killing it in the pool! Amazing job, my friend! That’s so great that you’ll be going to see Jolene for Christmas, and I hope all of you have a fabulous trip. Like you, flexibility is something I’m working on this month, along with glute and core strength. (Classic runner weaknesses!) I hope you have a lovely weekend. 🙂

I know! I will certainly be using your pool workouts over the next couple months! HAHA, good luck with the flexibility thing – SO HARD when you are a runner…
