Goals for May 2017

Happy Monday, friends!

I hope you all had a great weekend. I did a heavy training weekend with an adventure racing training camp, a long run to prepare for the Mississauga half marathon next weekend and a long indoor ride on Sunday. I love long rides outside, but the weather was in the negatives and I am not really a fan of suffering unnecessarily.

Side note: if you are interested in running the Mississauga full or half marathon this weekend, you can do so until May 3 at 5 PM.

So let’s talk April goals. Last month, I set out to:

Spring Clean My Closet

I am not completely done doing this but I have already purged a bunch of things I don’t need and beyond my closet, I have just started getting rid of things I don’t need. I sold off a bunch of bike parts I had lying around and it just feels so good to get rid of things that you never use! I will continue doing this in May but I think I built up some great momentum this past month.

Start Bike Commuting

Whenever the weather is nice, I hop on my new cross bike. It is only an extra 5 minutes to my drive commute to work and I love the fresh air and the sunshine before starting my work day.

Volunteer for a big event that promotes something I believe in

Fast and Female event

Fast and Female event

I had an incredible time volunteering at the Fast and Female event in Dundas, ON. I am looking forward to working with the organisation in the future and I love the idea of encouraging girls to stay in sport.

COMMUNITY CHALLENGE – Make your words count

I have been paying a lot of attention to my speech this month and trying to weed the “ums” out. I think I am getting better but it is something I need to keep paying attention to.

For May?

PR the half marathon distance

This coming weekend, I am racing the Mississauga half marathon and have been focusing on race pace for the past couple weeks. I know there are a lot of factors that can hamper this in a spring race, but I have trained hard and I am ready to do the best race I can.

Improve my swim technique

This week, I have started with a triathlon swim training program and looking forward to working with some local swimmers who will no doubt help me with speed in the water. My swim is my weakest discipline and I am determined to change that.

Start some new projects

I am beginning two big projects in May and both are big on developing some skills that I want to cultivate. Really excited to become a better blogger and become more involved in my local community.

Start my garden

My little seedlings have sprouted and are ready to go! Excited to get my garden planted this month.

This month, I don’t have a specific community challenge for you other than to GET OUTSIDE and enjoy the awesome weather we are going to get. Enjoy those May flowers.

I’ll take that get-outside challenge! 🙂 The weather is finally getting nice and sunny here and I have every intention of hiking this weekend. Also, you and I clearly have the same ideas about closet purging because that’s exactly what I spent last night doing! Looking forward to hearing more about your 2 projects, and good luck with the swim technique and 1/2 mary PR. I’m sure you’ll have a great race!

Purging things I don’t need makes me sooo happy! My goal is to get braver on my bike this spring! That fast & female event looks amazing!

I know – having extra stuff cluttering my space just makes me stressed.
Excited to see how you progress on the bike!
