I still feel like I am getting back into the groove post-Boston. You may have noticed that my posting schedule has been a bit off and I apologize. I will be back on schedule…eventually!
I wanted to check in with a quick recap of last week’s “training” which just consisted of 3 races and literally nothing else and also take a look at what I have been doing to recover from the race.
LAST WEEK’S “TRAINING”
MONDAY – BOSTON MARATHON – 42. 2 KM
WEDNESDAY – REST
THURSDAY – GYM SESSION – WEIGHTS AND CYCLING 1 HR
FRIDAY – REST
SATURDAY – 11 KM TRAIL RACE
SUNDAY- 40 KM BIKE RACE
I will do a bit of a recap on Friday on both races but I managed to manoeuvre them injury-free and am taking a very light training week this week.
Other things I am doing to ensure that I am fully recovered?
Kalaya Pain Relief Rub – Uhhh. This stuff though. Goodness Me! had sent me a couple bottles in anticipation of my marathon and I have been using it like crazy. Not only that, but it is Canadian-made in my city which makes me even prouder to support them. I put this on my legs after a shower or bath and it cools it down so effectively I was almost alarmed the first time I used it. I am so excited to have added this to my arsenal of marathon recovery products.
Genuine Health Joint Care – I am loving this for pain relief and muscle repair. I find that it helped take the edge off during the initial few days post marathon when everything kind of hurt.
CEP Compression Socks – I would explain why, but head over to their site and check out their home page. I wrote an article for them on why I use them for recovery.
Epson Salts – I pour a scoop of Epson Salts into a steaming hot bath and sit for 15 minutes. I drain the water and refill with ice cold water to flush out my muscles. I sit for another 5 minutes and then I am done! I cap this off with the Kalaya rub.
Genuine Health Bone Builder – I got hooked on this flavour following my recovery from stress fractures but I have been using it non-stop during marathon recovery for additional antioxidants. I am loading up on my greens and veggies for anti-inflammatory effects.
Other things I am doing? Lots of stretching and foam rolling. Oh, and I have found my way into a jar of Nutella.
How do you recover from big races?
