January Coffee Date

Morning!!!

Today, I am headed off on another adventure and I have a little bit of trepidation for this one, which is unusual for me. I like to think I can be one tough cookie for most things and most extreme events that I do, I just don’t overthink and just do. I learned this tactic when I was quite young and my dad taught me how to repel off a cliff.

“Just trust that it is safe and go – I’ve got you, it’s all going to be fine” he would say. And it always was.

The moment you hesitate or become scared is when things go wrong. However, put me in the cold and my resolve weakens, in fact, the only DNF in my life came from a race with extreme cold, so the prospect of a 48 HR winter adventure race in Midwestern USA in encroaching on insanity for me. I swear that my tombstone will read “It was a complimentary race entry.”

Regardless, all this build up to say that there will not be a post on Monday because I will be either a) standing on a podium to get an award, b) still racing or c) dead. Literally no one knows.

To close off the week, I wanted to do a this month’s Coffee Date. It’s been a while since we have caught up.

2016 Partnerships

I always want to be transparent on my partnerships because I choose them carefully. I take meetings and calls with other companies and carefully weigh my choices because I will never promote something I don’t 100% stand behind.

You can always see who I am currently working with in my “Proud to Represent” sidebar, but I thought I would cover off some of my big partners this year and some exciting things that are happening in the next couple months.

New Balance – I have some pending shoe reviews for you and partnering with them for a few races and events this year.

Genuine Health – Aside from some awesome giveaways, I am doing the 70.3 Muskoka IRONMAN this summer in partnership with them. Expect some fun new monthly features starting soon!

Polar – I am currently testing out some cool gadgets such as the foot pod, cadence sensor on my trainer and the awesome new A360. Reviews are coming!

Nuun – Expect some giveaways and potentially another Ragnar race? Right now, they have a huge discontinuation sale of Kona Cola, lemonade and lemon tea. Get them before they are gone!

Love Grown Foods – I have a HUGE announcement and giveaway for you the last week of January.

Goodness Me! – Free online shipping right now! This amazing company is where I get my groceries (love that they deliver to my door) and they also sponsor a LOT of the giveaways on my blog.

Goodlife Fitness – Where my strength training, yoga and winter tempo runs go down, they are currently offering a free trial to everyone next week to try all of their fitness classes! Head to your local gym and check it out!

5 Peaks – If you sign up for any of the races, use JESSICA for a $5 discount.

Happiness

NewImage3
I blogged this week about how much I try and keep happiness central in my life, despite the circumstances. I found this quote on the internet this week and absolutely fell in love.

Eating my dinner over the sink in full snow gear. My house is cold and I have places to go.

Wiivv

This is one of the most innovative ways to create a custom insole for athletes that I have ever seen. Basically, it is a Kickstarter campaign that makes 3D printed insoles from your smart phone camera. An insole can help athletes that need additional stability, shock absorption and comfort in their runs and can help with knee pain, hip alignment, plantar fasciitis and arch support. They retail for $75 USD (don’t even think about the Canadian conversion…)
Check them out here.

Current Music

Current Food
Some of my race fuel for this weekend include my peanut butter protein truffles, chocolate avocado bread, dates dipped in peanut butter and dark chocolate and some balls that consist of coconut butter, dates, chocolate chips and almonds. The event is around 80 KM and in the freezing cold, so I am keeping it high fat, delicious and things that only taste better and better the more frozen they are.

As well as loading up on a ridiculous number of hand and foot warmers.

That’s all for this week. See you (hopefully) next Wednesday!

I see Muskoka 70.3 on that list and that makes me EXCITED! (It also further underscores our need for a catch up because this is news since the last one!) Only you, my friend, only you would do a 48 hour mid-winter adventure race. Well actually, there has to be more people registered so maybe not just you, but you know what I mean. Good luck!! Stay warm, enjoy all the PB, and I have a feeling it will be a podium kind of day for you! 🙂

Those are some really cool partnerships, well done!! I’ve tried those hand warmers in work, but am not really convinced yet, maybe I’ll try them again this week…

I actually got to DJ with Laidback Luke a couple of years ago, it was a massive deal for me lol..

That Wiivv product sounds pretty innovative. I’ve never heard of anything like that before!
